DRC population has been facing violence and massacres in the Eastern part. Since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda a big number of Genocide perpetrators fled to DRC, especially in the Eastern part in South and North Kivu, and they are still having genocide ideologies, continuing their bad acts of killing people, raping women and building hatred and discrimination.
Currently, we are advocating for stopping the massacres in the areas of Minembwe, Buniya, Ituri, Butembo, Lubero, Beni and Luzizi. We are calling upon individuals and organizations for humanitarian assistance (food, water, education, shelter, and health care) for victims. There should be established a community recovery process and dialogues after the ongoing massacres are stopped, to help people recover from trauma.
The only solution is to help them overcome the ethnicity mindset and divisionism; we are to help communities affected by conflicts to deal with the historical effects of wars and massacres in the Eastern part of DRC.
As a long-term solution to discrimination, ethnicity and sexual violence, we advocate for a reconciliation policy and community recovery strategy. Sensitizing people to separate themselves from armed groups and voluntary disarmament as well as the re-integration of ex-combatants in the society.
